Alastair Humphreys, National Geographic Adventurer, blogger, author and motivational speaker.

As well as expeditions such as rowing the Atlantic, cycling round the world and walking across India. Alastair was named a National Geographic Adventurer of the Year for his pioneering work on the concept of microadventures, encouraging people to get outside, get out of their comfort zone, go somewhere they've never been.

Sebastian Bssing

The 31 year-old from Dortmund, Germany feels most at home in the outdoors hiking, fishing and camping.

A passionate traveller and keen sportsman, Sebastian is rarely seen without his camera. Any spare time he has is devoted to writing about another of his favourite things, whisky, for an online blog.

He is looking forward to the water-based challenges much more than the cycling aspects.

Tim Brayshaw

Property specialist, adventurer, would-be rockstar and family man Tim balances work, personal pursuits and family in and around his hometown of Ilkley, Great Britain.

When he's not walking the 3 peaks or cycling to London on a whim, the 41 year-old is likely to be found spending time with his two young daughters.

He hopes that this experience will help him to focus more on squeezing adventure into his busy home life. Tim has brought a guitar on the adventure, and will be glad when the sea kayaking is behind him: he has never done this before.

Thomas Appelt

Thomas works for a bus company in Brussels, Belgium but his preferred mode of transport is his motorbike. Most weekends the 37 year-old is to be found head down in a scrum playing prop forward for his local rugby team, or scaling a mountain indulging in another of his passions, Geocaching.

He is hoping to find some of Skye's geocaches during the adventure, and quite nervous about tackling the Cuillin Ridge.

Alex Glasgow

In his youth, Alex Glasgow cycle toured over 40,000Km across the globe, before settling in a remote, wild corner of Scotland. He is a keen outdoorsman, a mountain biking guide, and an athlete.

Three times British mountain bike champion, Alex also won the 2012 Celtman, Britain's toughest Ironman-distance triathlon.

The Isle of Skye

Here the stark rise of the jagged Cuillin ridge drops to the gentle whist of a soft sand beach. Inlets, bays and islands create a complex lacework pattern with the sea.
